Ag in a Bag

This activity is set to take place during when we are reading to the elementary school students. The plan is that while we are at the schools and with the students we will bring bags to each class containing agricultural materials so that while we are reading and telling them about ourselves and the importance of agriculture they will see hands on things that they can feel and look at up close such as cotton or other agriculturally produced materials that affect these students daily lives. This will build the importance and necessity of agriculture and lead to them seeing and thinking about it daily with things like food and clothing materials. This will be split in with a coloring sheet showing the process of the material being grown and produced into the everyday item. The main goals for this event are in tune with our reading plans, we are going to push for at least two different classes at each of the schools we are visiting, those being, GUES, Cotteral, Central, Fogarty, and Charter Oak. We are expecting around 25 students per class so we are pushing for 250 students total that we are going to teach. Because these schools are elementary that means that we will be speaking to small children, k-5 grade. The most important thing is to show these young students how important agriculture is in their and everyone's daily life so that they will see firsthand with the provided ag bag how agriculture affects them and keep this in mind growing their knowledge and understanding of agriculture.
